Workshop:  Anesthesia for laryngeal microsurgey
(For anesthesiologists)

Schedule 2007
April 24

Recent advances in laryngeal microsurgery and endoscopic procedures of the superior airway mean longer surgical times and more complex surgeries, which implies the need for refinement of the anesthetic techniques, in order to ensure that both, the anaesthesiologist and the surgeon, are able to perform their work under the  best possible conditions while sharing a very reduced space.

In phonosurgical procedures it is mandatory to avoid the use of large endotracheal tubes because precision in the surgical intervention depends on a great manner on the space the surgeon has available to work, although it is also equally important to have a secured airway with strict control of all parameters.

The workshop on airway management has been designed to deliver the necessary knowledge for participants to learn and develop skills in order to improve the accuracy for the diagnosis of the conditions of the airway in the multiple pathological changes that are possible.

Lectures reinforce knowledge pursuing actualization in different alternatives; demonstration of the techniques in real cases is a fundamental complement, with the possibility of interaction with the instructor so the participants get a valuable experience that in the end is going to be beneficial for their patients.

Course objectives

  • Learn to identify, based on a clinical examination before surgery, predictive factors of a difficult airway.
  • Summarize the techniques for airway management, including non invasive supraglottic, surgical techniques and special ventilation techniques.
  • Be acquainted with JET ventilation technique for laryngeal microsurgery
  • Share experiences from the anesthesiologists point of view in surgical procedures that demand team work with the surgeon while sharing the working space.

Tuition:
USD $ 400 (four hundred dollars)
Attendance to this workshop is strictly limited to a small group of specialists and conftimation can only be obtained by means of tuition payment, which must be received at least 30 days before the date of the workshop.
